UFO Sightings On The Rise In The UK

There have been a total of 957 UFOs spotted in the last 2 years which is a significant rise from previous years. Cities seem the new hotspots for these spooky encounters which London, Liverpool and Glasgow all registering a high number of sightings.

So, what’s causing the increase in unexplained activity in our skies? Whilst most are likely to be the misidentification of ordinary objects such as drones, aircraft or weather balloons, former MOD official, Nick Pope, doesn’t believe this should prevent the UK government treating sightings more seriously by saying:

“What else are we missing by not looking? In the US, the federal government is fully engaged on the issue, with the government, the military and the intelligence community working together. This reflects the fact that the US is studying recent data, whereas the UK’s ‘do nothing’ policy relies on a historical assessment. The UK needs to accept this US assessment as a start-point, and engage properly on this issue.”

The Ministry of Defence has not investigated UFO sightings since 2009 in with a recent statement by an MOD spokesman, it seems they have no intention of doing so anytime soon:

“The MOD has no opinion on the existence of extra-terrestrial life and no longer investigates reports of sightings of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena or Unidentified Flying Objects. This is because, in over 50 years no such reporting to the Department indicated the existence of any military threat to the UK, and it was deemed more valuable to prioritise MOD staff resources towards other Defence-related activities.”
