Move Over SpaceX! A New Project Is Giving Away Tickets Into Space.

Whilst SpaceX and Blue Origin grab the headlines throughout the world with their usual fanfare, another space travel program is quietly going about its’ business to reach the stars. Unlike other projects, SPAARK bills itself as a ‘global exit strategy’ rather than commercial tourism. Their ambitious mission is for its members to live permanently as a resident aboard giant space vessels or globes.
So confident are they with their plans that they have already opened bookings for their first intergalactic ‘Space Arks” named Midnight One and Two. Surprisingly, whilst tickets for Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin run from a few hundred thousand into the millions of dollars, SPAARK is free and available to anyone.
‘This is why we don’t charge to be a resident on a vessel, it’s completely free and simple to secure a place. There are far more important attributes to humans than their wallets.’ SPAARK CEO Abel Wander, told us.

And indeed, focusing on the people or the ‘civilisation’ is the core ethos behind of the space company. There’s a clear belief that resettling in space or colonising another planet is pointless without a civilisation capable of living in harmony without repeating the mistakes made on earth. Although admirable, focusing on the human aspect may have come at the detriment to the technology. There’s no mention of how they plan to get the huge habitats into space let alone populate them with thousands of passengers. The company has promised a ‘Mission Whitepaper’ next year to explain all. But the only insight into the technical aspect of their mission comes from Wander’s rather cryptic quote:
‘The technology already exists for humans to live in space, the issue has always been gaining access to this technology.’
If you’re hoping to return from your SPAARK journey, think again. There's no coming back, as their website states ‘Your one-way ticket for the ultimate adventure.’ But wait, I know what you’re thinking, haven’t we seen this before? Many people have already pointed out the similarities to MARS ONE, the plan to colonize the red planet which transpired to be an elaborate hoax. Indeed, there’s no denying this does have a similar feel. Yes, SPAARK does appear to have a lack of technology and resources with an impossibly short timeframe, but it does have what the other space programs lack, heart. Whether the Midnight space vessels ever leave earth’s orbit is unknown and in someways irrelevant. One day it will happen, but surely what's more important is how we'll live when we get there? As Wander states:
‘SPAARK is about putting measures in place to preserve, improve and expand the marvels of humanity’.
